THE Korrine and District Tennis As-
sociation held its annual tournament on
Sunday, November 8 in perfect weather
The tournament was open to players
from the association, which includes
Entrants came from Kongwak, Won-
thaggi, Westernport, Phillip Island,
Poowong, Grantville and Inverloch.
Sections 4 and 5 players competed
at the Wonthaggi courts. All entrants
displayed fantastic sportsmanship and
played their best with some very close
Pennant, 1 and 2 played at the Inver-
loch courts where the weather held up
There were a large number of entrants
with some very closely matched com-
petitors resulting in a lot of great tennis.
Even first round matches were tough
battles with Alex McMahon (Western-
port) and Nathan Harris (Inverloch)
starting their day with a singles match
that took one hour and 25 minutes.
Round 5 saw Phillip Island Section 1/
Pennant play away in a very close and
competitive game against Inverloch.
This was the first team win of the sea-
son for Phillip Island players, with the
final scores 4 to 4 sets and 39 to 30
Convincing singles wins went to Os-
car Marks against Nick Rigby 6 to 1 and
Isaac Batty against Holly Vander Plight
Riley Weinzerl had a close and chal-
lenging single match against Caleb Cum-
mins going down 5 to 7.
Double partners Wil Lone and Isaac
Batty had a comfortable win against
Jayla and Holly winning 6 to 0, while
doubles partners Riley and Oscar had a
successful win 6 to 2 against Caleb and
This was a great confidence builder for
the team and hopefully the first of many
more wins to come.
All entrants displayed fantastic sports-
manship and played their best with
some very close results.
Phillip Island Red played away to
Grantville at Corinella.
Phillip Island Red were up against a
very established Grantville team but
they never gave up with many of the
games going to deuce.
Poppy Marshall and Jonah Keys had a
challenging win in their doubles match
winning 6 to 4.
Orlando Kane performed some
smashing volleys but was unable to con-
vert against Justin Cadman going down
Thanks to Cailen Lone for filling in as
an emergency player for Phillip Island
All the players had a great day and
the final score didn't represent how well
This team will only get stronger as the
season goes on.
Phillip Island Blue played at home
These two teams played off in last
year's Section 5 grand final with Inver-
loch having a close win, so both teams
were keen to play each other this season.
With a very hard fought match Phillip
Island Blue came out winners with final
scores 5 to 3 sets and 35 to 31 games.
Connor Mitchell and Kristos Kossena
both had convincing singles wins and all
players, including Alannah Dean and Mi-
chael Furniss, had equal success in their
respective doubles matches.
This was a big win for Phillip Island
Blue, well done team.

The Phillip Island Section 5 team
played at home in cold and drizzly con-
ditions against Wonthaggi, but this did
not stop the young side from putting up
a fantastic effort against a much older
and experienced Wonthaggi team.
Sienna McFarlane performed well in
her singles with a close match against
Reece going down 3 to 4.

Six Phillip Island tennis juniors played
off in the annual Korrine and District
Tennis Association junior tournament
on Sunday, November 8.
What made this a special event for the
players was that they had three sets of
siblings playing in their respective ten-
James Lone, Karter Kossena and Lucy
Dean headed up the representation for
Section 5 while Cailen Lone, Kristos
Kossena and Alannah Dean represented
All players played singles with Lucy
Dean having minor success finishing
runner-up in the consolation pool while
Kristos Kossena successfully won his
James Lone played his first ever com-
petitive game of tennis and put in an en-
couraging effort for a beginner.
Doubles partners Alannah and Cailen
had some match success but were un-
able to convert to gain a finals standing.
All of the players had mixed results
with wins and losses but all had a fun
day with their siblings and friends and
a great introduction to tennis tourna-
