Zane Mattock was awarded Most
Valuable Player in the Under 16 sec-
tion. Other individual award winners
were Boyd Cross and Ethan Dayson,
(Coach’s awards)and Keith Robinson
won the 3 Point Shooting competition.
San Remo grand finals decided
THE grand finals of the San Remo
Summer Basketball competition were
played at the recreation centre recently.
The day got off to an exciting start in
the Under 10 consolation final, with Blue
Trailblazers defeating Yellow Magic by 4
points in triple overtime.
In the Under 10 grand final, Red Rock-
ets 26 d Royal Pistons 20.
Other very close matches included Un-
der 12, where Blue Lakers defeated Yel-
low Wizards by 3 points and in Under
16, Royal Warriors defeated Black Thun-
der by a point.
In Under 14 section Blue Knicks 37 d
Red Mavericks 30.
There was an exciting finish in the Un-
der 16 group.
Royal Warriors were up by seven points
with one minute to go.
Two three pointers from Kai Macken-
zie brought Black Thunder to within a
point, but the Royal Warriors held on to
win 47 to 46.
It was a great day for the club, with
players competing in good spirit, with
strong defence and great teamwork.
Well done Phillip Island basketballers.

Phillip Island bridge
A SPECIAL competition for Novice
Pairs as well as usual play was held at
Phillip Island Bridge Club last Monday.
Winners for the Novice Pairs were
Michael Dooley and Moya Crowley and
congratulations to Beth Banks and
Carol Sowdan on winning the Under 25
points Novice section.
Overall winners for the day were Mi-
chael Dooley and Moya Crowley.
In the North/South section, Wednes-
day’s victors were Greg Nicholson and
Jean Barbour, second Paul Waylen and
Shirley Stewart, third Sylvia Ronchi
and Graham McKergow.
East/West winners were Kaye Doug-
las and Yvonne Mears, second Janet
and Paul Hill and third Jack Kuiper
and Deb Anglim.

running the competition.
