Staff at Newhaven Primary got into the act of dressing up to celebrate Children’s Book
Week with prep teacher Robyn Smith arriving as the green sheep from well-loved Austra-
lian Author, Mem Fox’s “Where is the Green Sheep?”.
Grade 3/4 teacher Carly Ablett appeared as the main character of “Thelma the Unicorn”
by Aaron Blabey. Saskia Schmidt, Ashleigh Owens, Jim Barlow, Rhonda Dean, Caroline

CHILDREN’S Book Week was recently cele-
brated throughout Newhaven Primary School,
with a great time had by all.
Art teacher Helen Matthews helped the chil-
dren create works inspired by some of the
shortlisted books such as Alison Lester’s “My
Dog Bigsy” and “Mr Huff ” by Anna Walker.
The school was also lucky to be visited by
local children’s author Nikki Kelly who spoke
to the upper classes about her journey to have
her books published; and entertained the ju-
nior classes by sharing stories written by her-
self and others.
A highlight of Book Week celebrations at
Newhaven Primary School is always the Book
Character Dress-Up Parade and this year once
again saw an array of colourful and innovative
costumes on display in the Caroline Talbot
Judges Sarah Milligan, Katrina Stuteley and
Jim Barlow found it hard to select only three
winners and in the end, four students were
awarded prizes of book vouchers from Turn
the Page bookstore.
