In December 2023, Phillip Island artist and environmental activist Jan Bodaan died at the age of 95.

This week, the Advertiser received a tribute to Jan from Pamela and Simon Omelaniec, who live in British Columbia, Canada.

"In 1990 we met Jan Bodaan in Moscow," Pamela said.

"We helped her financially and for this she sent us this painting."

The painting is still proudly displayed in the couple's home.

In February around 100 people gathered to pay tribute to Jan's life, with a celebration at Berninneit.
