Former Phillip Island resident Cameron Ashe, Deputy Director General of the Australian Signals Directorate, is returning to the island as a guest speaker  at the Newhaven College Foundation Day on May 14.

Earlier this year, Cameron was awarded the Australian Intelligence Medal at the 2024 Australia Day Honours. He recently received his medal from the Governor General, the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), at a ceremony in Canberra.

Cameron lived on Phillip Island and attended Cowes Primary and Newhaven College where he was twice Papworth Scholar and Captain of the school.

He spent 12 months in South Africa as a Rotary Exchange Student before returning to graduate with honours from La Trobe University and joining the Australian Intelligence Service.

During this service, Cameron spent two years in New Zealand, two years in charge at Pine Gap, a further two years in the USA, and then two years in Hawaii.

He also travelled extensively overseas as the head of the South East Asian Intelligence Division.

When he is in Australia, Cameron resides in Canberra with his wife and two children.

Cameron is the son of local couple Clif and Laraine Ashe. Clif is well known for his service as a local police officer in the area in the 1980s.
