Join Phillip Island Nature Parks Reconciliation Advisory Committee
1 min read

Phillip Island Nature Parks invites members of the First Nations community to contribute their perspectives by joining its Reconciliation Advisory Committee.

Comprised of Bunurong and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community representatives, alongside staff from the Nature Parks Community Impact team, this committee plays a pivotal role in advising the Nature Parks Board to support the implementation of key reconciliation initiatives.

As the Nature Parks embarks on the endorsement of its next Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), spanning from June of this year to June 2027, it presents an ideal moment for the Advisory Committee to welcome new members.

Kate Adams, Community Impact Manager at Phillip Island Nature Parks, emphasised the significance of involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in advisory roles.

"Privileged to care for important land in our community, the Nature Parks is dedicated to preserving natural places for both people and wildlife. It is essential our Advisory Committee is guided by the wisdom and profound connection with Country that First Nations people have, ensuring that our organisation operates with cultural inclusion at its core."

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) serves as a roadmap for achieving meaningful reconciliation outcomes. The Phillip Island Nature Parks Reconciliation Action Plan was developed through collaboration with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, Traditional Owners, the broader First Nations community, the Nature Parks Board of Management, and staff.

"Our organisation has a vision for reconciliation, which recognises and empowers Bunurong to drive outcomes for conservation on Millowl," Ms Adams continued.

"Our goal is for the community to collectively understand, respect and celebrate Bunurong culture and Country through a shared responsibility. We are committed to empowering our staff, volunteers, and partners to be truth-tellers and allies in fostering positive social change."
