Sweet sounds of Wild Honey
2 min read

Now based on the Surf Coast, former Phillip Island siblings Lucy and Daniel Crock have released their first single, under the name Wild Honey.

Lucy and younger brother Daniel have been singing together since they were kids.

Now in their twenties, Lucy, a journalist, and Daniel, a history major, combine their love of storytelling with smooth vocal tones to sing about growing up, moving away, and realising grief in retrospect.

Their debut single, “Where I’m From” was released on March 15 (produced by Jordy Merry and mixed/mastered by Isaac Barter) and is an ode to the unsettling of their early twenties, and sets a reflective tone for more to come.

“It’s strange finally releasing these songs,” Daniel said.

“Lucy and I have been singing together for years. All five of us kids used to sing folk songs in the back of our seven-seater car on trips across the Nullarbor.

“Now we live a few hours apart, and we’re busier. We still bicker like siblings, but we also understand each other, and our music, in a way that I think only family can.”

For Lucy, growing up together and now performing together is a special bond.

“We wrote ‘Where I’m From’ a few years ago, reflecting on what it would feel like to look back after everything changes, after all the unsettling of our early twenties.

“It means even more to us now. Once you’ve grown up a bit, it can give you perspective on the things you used to take for granted.

“The things that used to feel normal feel nostalgic and sentimental.

“We’ve tried to capture that feeling of the years moving quickly; the feeling of home changing,” Lucy said.

“We love singing stories that feel significant. It’s always been the drawcard of folk music for us, it tells stories.”

Fans of singer-songwriters like Eva Cassidy, John Mayer or John Denver will find plenty to savour with Wild Honey.

The duo hope to return to Phillip Island and play shows later in the year.

“It’s where our parents live 50 per of the time, and our grandparents.”
