1 min read

A house in Marlin Street, Smiths Beach was destroyed after a fire broke out on Tuesday night (April 9).

Phillip Island Fire Brigade said they responded to a "fully involved house fire" at approximately 9pm.

It took around an hour to contain the fire, which was attended by 25 volunteer fire fighters and three appliances from Phillip Island, plus one each from San Remo, Kilcunda and Wonthaggi.

Unfortunately the house could not be saved.

A CFA spokesperson said the occupants were home, but all got out safely.

Two of the occupants in the house were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have confirmed a man has been arrested, after the fire was deemed suspicious.

A crime scene has been established and an arson chemist will attend the scene today (April 10).

A 53-year-old Phillip Island man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
