Kyla Seipp wants to celebrate women and girls and is holding two special workshops later this month.
An early childhood teacher, counsellor and youth mentor, Kyla describes the workshops as “positive menstruation education”, focused on connection and celebration.
On Friday, March 31 she is hosting a two hour mothers’ session, then running a full day session on Sunday, April 2 at Island Healing in Newhaven.
Kyla said the workshops are about period preparation.
“I am a passionate advocate for period poverty. The workshop is focused on educating girls on their menstrual cycle in a way that the education system lacks.
"It’s no secret that growing up involves change,” Kyla said.

“But we can help girls to feel informed and confident about their body, their cycles and themselves.
“Extensive research has shown that for young girls who experience menarche well-prepared, with a positive introduction and emotional support, the result is higher self-esteem, fewer negative cycle related symptoms, favourable overall menstrual perception and easier subsequent births.”
Kyla described Celebration Day for Girls as “a holistic approach to positive puberty preparation that is rooted in celebratory elements to help affirm relationships with their caregivers, bodies , cycles and themselves”.
Kyla is also hoping to garner community support for a campaign to end period poverty on Phillip Island.
