A helping hand this Winter Solstice
A Winter Solstice sale, with tattoos, vintage market and art show, will raise money for charity.
To celebrate the Winter Solstice, an otherwise dreary time of the year, Phillip Island Tattoo decided to invite eight exciting versatile tattooers from Melbourne, England and Korea to join them for a flash day for a great cause.
Running on June 22, from 10am until late, not only will you have a chance to get an original one-off design from the local and visiting artists, the tattoo day will raise money for Free 3D Hands.
Phillip Island Tattoo is located next door to the Free 3D Hands factory and owner Ian "Bugsy" Christensen said the day was a way to help "our lovely neighbours and to have a bit of fun doing it!"
"There will be fun, music, good food and plenty of space and cover, no matter what the weather gives us," he said.
There will also be a vintage market and art show including the photography of Julian Fletcher. A renowned tattooer and photographer, he was recently shortlisted as portrait photographer of the year in Australia.
Food and coffee will be available at Island Organics and Island Primary Produce.
"We will donate a percentage of all sales from the vintage market and art sale," Ian explained.
"And Island Organics will do the same. Island Primary Produce will do gourmet hotdogs at the end of the day for all the workers and people still there, donating all proceeds to the cause.
"We will also have an art auction/raffle and take donations that will go all to Free 3D Hands. They will be open for tours that day as well."
Ian previously organised the "Body Parts" artshow at Grenache Wine Bar in Cowes in April.
"Like the art show it's to create community, have fun tattooing and to help contribute to our wonderful neighbours.
Ian's partner Kate Gilbert is organising the vintage market, which will "add an atmosphere and makes it different from a normal workday," Ian said.
"It's a chance to get a beautiful tattoo from a specialist artist and to help support a good cause."
Last year's Winter Solstice sale raised $5000, so Ian is once again hoping for a good turn out and good day.
All tattoos are $200 (cash only) with numerous styles available.
Saturday June 22, from 10am.
