“The suburban landscape is still spreading at the expense of the rural landscape and if this is allowed to continue the eventual prospect is of an island largely built over with a few residual reserves, most likely commercialised as zoos and viewing areas.

“It is often the constant vigilance of concerned residents in opposing certain developments that preserves the island’s bushland and scenic landscapes.”
