This year, Cowes Primary is taking part in the Colour Explosion School Fun Run, to raise money for new library books.

This Friday (November 19) Cowes Primary School is holding a colourful fundraiser.

The Colour Explosion School Fun Run has been organised by the School Council Fundraising Committee to help buy new books for the school library.

It is also a way to say, “thanks for being such great kids this year while remote learning”, Katrina Knight from the fundraising committee said.

The fundraiser has easily exceeded the initial $5000 target.

“We have already raised almost $33,000 for new books for our school library which has blown us away,” Katrina said.

The fun run will involve students, wearing white t-shirts, navigating an obstacle course around the school yard, while teachers and volunteers throw coloured powder and squirt water at them!

To create an extra bit of fun for students, if the school raises $35,000, the class that has raised the most money will get to slime assistant Principal Sarah Tyrrell at the end of the fun run.

And ... if the school raises $40,000 the class will get to slime Principal Rod McKenzie.

It’s sure to be a messy, happy, colourful and crazy affair, but there is a serious side to the event.

“The Colour Explosion School Fun Run promotes exercise, teamwork, and community-mindedness – with a whole lot of fun thrown in,” explained Katrina.

“Every child can participate whether or not they choose to fundraise, and students who wish to fundraise have the chance to win prizes by taking part.

“Anyone who fundraises $10 or more for our school, can win some really cool prizes, ranging from bag tags and slime, up to Lenovo Tablets, Razor Hover Boards and PS4 Playstations.”

As part of the event, the school held a t-shirt design competition, to create a logo to be printed on the fun run’s official white t-shirts.

The competition received 81 entries, giving the judges a difficult task. After much consideration, they selected the winning design by Millie Brewin in Grade 3 and the t-shirts were sold as part of the fundraiser.

Students and teachers will be wearing the t-shirts on the day, which are guaranteed not to stay white for long.

Unsurprisingly, the school has reminded students to bring spare clothes to change into after the Fun Run.
