And the band plays on
The Wonthaggi Citizens’ Band is set to delight audiences in their concert at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre.
The Wonthaggi Citizens’ Band is set to delight audiences once again in their concert at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre on October 14 at 8pm.
Formed in 1910, the band is one of the longest running community organisations in Wonthaggi and has a long history of playing at the arts centre, having performed their annual concert at the theatre since the 1980s.
The community band, conducted by Craig Marinus, is made up of 35 brass and percussion players, ranging from students from Bass Coast College to retirees in their sixties and beyond.
The band was named C-Grade State Champions at the recent Victorian Bands League competition.
The band will perform a broad range of pieces – from movie themes to hymns and marches to works specifically composed for brass band – which are sure to get your toes tapping.
The concert will also feature Wonthaggi Youth Brass, conducted by Nick Beale, and the Training Band, conducted by Natalie Meadows.
The band is thrilled to welcome guest vocalists Kerryn Lockhart, Cecily De Gooyer, Aoife O’Connell and Lyra Lockhart to perform as part of the evening, accompanied by Dan Moldrich.
These talented singers are well known to local audiences, as they often feature in Wonthaggi Theatrical Group, Leongatha Lyric Theatre and school productions.
