Applications for the Phillip Island Nature Parks Community Giving Program are open from March 1 until March 31 offering support for local not-for-profit, volunteer, community and school groups across Bass Coast.

The Nature Parks has been a long-term supporter of local organisations, charities and events and each year commits funds and in-kind support to support the Phillip Island community.

Community Engagement Officer Kimberley Dunstan said the community is a key stakeholder and partner in conservation achievements, with the Nature Parks contributing to projects and events that align with the organisation's strategic objectives and values.

"Through the Community Giving Program, the Nature Parks aims to support incorporated community groups, management committees, volunteer groups and schools, to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes," Ms Dunstan said.

The Nature Parks proudly supported the recently published children's book "Penny's Plastic Problem" by Mili Janjic through the Community Giving Program.
"We instantly connected with the story of Penny the little penguin and admire Mili's incredible passion and dedication in caring for the ocean and marine life, and inspiring others to do so," said Ms Dunstan.

Mili Janjic thanked the Phillip Island Nature Parks for their support, mentorship and "for believing in me from the very start of my journey".

"When I first decided to write this book, I never could have imagined receiving such incredible encouragement and assistance.

I definitely could not have done it without the amazing team at the Phillip Island Nature Parks who has help getting Penny's story out to the world."

In the previous round of the program last year, the Nature Parks provided sponsorship and donations across a range of conservation and community initiatives and fundraising events including: Landcare Victoria - Phillip Island Land Alliance; Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre; Wildlife Coast Cruises; Corinella and District Community Centre Inc.; Phillip Island Football Netball Club and Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club - Cowes Classic and Little Penguin Dash; and Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club - San Remo Channel Challenge.

The Nature Parks invites incorporated community groups, management committees, volunteer groups and schools to submit applications of support for events and projects that give back to the Bass Coast community and educate and raise awareness about nature, conservation and sustainability, and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
