“We are very proud of our students’ achievements; they have shown strong resilience through the challenging years of their secondary education (with Covid) and new campuses,” said campus Principal Alison Gill.
“Their efforts have paid off well.”
College Dux Milla Laub was also the inaugural recipient of the Country Universities Centre (CUC) Bass Coast Award, marking the first time this award has been presented in the Bass Coast community.
The award was presented to one student from each of the seven secondary schools across the South Gippsland and Bass Coast region, recognising the efforts of students striving high to achieve their educational goals in their final year.
Principal Alison Gill congratulated Milla on the dual recognition, acknowledging both the results and the dedication behind them.
“Being named Dux is a remarkable accomplishment and reflects Milla’s commitment, perseverance and drive for excellence,” said Alison
“To also be named the inaugural recipient of the Country Universities Centre Bass Coast Award is a special honour and highlights their bright future ahead.”
Milla receives a Certificate of Achievement and a $500 contribution to support their ongoing educational journey, including study-related expenses such as books, technology, or course fees.
“I’m really thankful for the support of teachers, family and friends throughout the year,” Milla said.
“It means a lot to be recognised by the school and CUC Bass Coast, and I’m excited for what comes next.”
CUC Bass Coast Centre Manager Sarah Bourke said launching the CUC Bass Coast Student Achievement Award was a “really proud moment for us”, as the centre enters its fourth year of supporting local people engaged in higher education in the region.
“It’s about celebrating the determination and hard work of local students and shining a light on what’s possible when young people are supported to pursue their goals.
“This award is already helping to raise the centre's profile and to build aspiration in our community, showing students and families that you can live and study locally, and still achieve big.”
To date, the centre has supported over 520 students on their higher education journeys, connecting them with resources, community, and tailored academic support.
