Bass Coast College students raise thousands to fight MND
Students at Bass Coast College have raised over $2500 for Fight MND.
Students at Bass Coast College have raised over $2500 for Fight MND.
After a suggestion from Leit Rivers one of the Year 12 student leaders, the group worked for several months to plan the fundraiser, which ran at both the San Remo and McKenzie campuses.
All the money went to FightMND, the foundation established to find effective treatments and a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.
Last Thursday at San Remo, six staff members gamely took on the ice bucket challenge, being doused in icy water by the Year 12 leader, with the rest of the students cheering them on.
Students also learned about the FightMND cause, and how much money had been raised globally, as well as hearing personal stories of families affected first-hand by the debilitating and destructive disease.
At recess, Year 12 student leaders sold FightMND beanies and donuts and vanilla slice, specially decorated in FightMND blue and white and generously donated by Connell’s Bakery.
The students raised over $900.
The fundraising team then headed back to Wonthaggi.
This time eight staff and the eight student leaders lined up for the ice challenge, while Year 11 student leaders helped with the sale of the beanies and cakes.
The 2022 Student Leadership Group thanked Year 11 student leaders for their help, and all the students and staff who supported the cause.
They also thanked the local businesses that threw their support behind the fundraiser: Watersure donated $500, Coles provided a $50 gift voucher, Connell’s Bakery donated all the blue and white iced donuts and vanilla slices and Bunning providing the buckets for the ice challenge.
FightMND beanies are still being sold at all three Bass Coast College campuses.
