Bass Coast Giving Tree Appeal
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead is calling for donations for this year's Christmas Giving Tree.
The Bass Coast Giving Tree Christmas Appeal for 2024 to support local families in need across the community is now officially open.
This annual program is coordinated by the Combined Welfare Group which includes local churches, community groups and charities such as The Salvation Army and the St Vincent De Paul Society.
Now in its 21st year, the Bass Coast Giving Tree Christmas Appeal has been a beacon of hope and community spirit, touching the lives of many local families and individuals.
This year the appeal is asking for donations of new, unwrapped gifts for children of all ages, gift cards and non-perishable food items.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead says the generosity of the community never ceases to inspire her.
"It's been such a tough year for so many so if you're in a position to make a donation, even a small one, every bit helps," she said.
"I'm so proud of how our community comes together each year to support one another, even when times are tough.
"In addition to toys and gifts, we're also looking for food donations such as rice, pasta, canned vegetables, biscuits and special Christmas items like mince pies and puddings.
"Many of these are small, low-cost items that may mean a local family can have a special Christmas meal that they otherwise might not have been able to afford," Cr Halstead explained.
"Thank you to everyone who has donated to the program so far; it's wonderful to see so many gifts under the trees already.
"A special thank you to former mayor and councillor Clare Le Serve who was already encouraging donations to the program back in September as part of her community thank you event.
"Let's make Christmas a special time for everyone in our community," Cr Halstead concluded.
Christmas Giving Trees are now on display in Council's Customer Service Centres in Cowes, Grantville, Inverloch and Wonthaggi.
Donations will be accepted up until Friday, December 6 at all centres except for Cowes which is until Thursday December 12.
