Bass Coast Series events launched

Registrations for the Bass Coast Series of Aquathons opened two weeks ago and entries are already coming in ahead of schedule.

The dates for the 2024 events are:

Sunday January 21: Cape Paterson Aquathon, 10am. Contact 0424 699 193

Saturday February 10: San Remo Channel Challenge, 12.15pm. Contact 0416 133 655

Saturday March 2: Cowes Classic Aquathon, 2pm. Contact 0418 366 324

Entries for the Junior Swim/Run event – the Little Penguin Dash – held on March 2, the same day as the Cowes Classic, opened this week. The Little Penguin Dash starts at 10.30am (contact 0400 603 997).

Once again, the Cape Paterson SLSC, Woolamai Beach SLSC and the Phillip Island Football/Netball club are combining to produce and manage these very popular events which are loved by the local community as well as by the many entrants who venture from outside the Bass Coast area to participate.

This year the Channel Challenge is expected to break the record of 635 competitors and there is even talk that with good weather the event could reach the benchmark target of 700 entrants.

Entry numbers are also higher than usual for this time of the year for both the Cape Paterson Aquathon and the Cowes Classic events, so it looks like being a great summer in the water.

“We remind all local competitors that entries are only taken online for each of these events, and it certainly helps the organisers if people enter early and help indicate how much merchandise will be needed for each weekend,” a spokesperson for the organisers said.
