Big line up for Little Penguin Dash
Siblings Savannah and Austin Bennett excitedly await the start of the Little Penguin Dash 2022.

A record number of kids signed up for the third Little Penguin Dash in Cowes on Saturday.

Held at 10.30am, a warm-up for the main event (the Cowes Classic), 98 eager youngsters registered for the dash.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, organisers were concerned the weather would make the events unviable, but fortunately the skies cleared and conditions were described as ideal for both events.

The ongoing success of the Little Penguin Dash seems assured now and race organiser, Susan Fawaz, thinks that there could be 150 youngsters taking part in next year’s race.

Many of those kids were seen still wearing their Little Penguin Dash t-shirts and medallions around their necks all through the weekend.

The Little Penguin Dash saw two divisions competing. A 200-metre swim and 200-metre run for the seven- to 10-year-olds, and a 400-metre swim and 400-metre run for the 11-14-year-old category.

Congratulations to everyone involved in organising the event and well done to all the incredible young competitors.
