Biggest morning tea at PITC

On Thursday, May 25, the Cancer Council Victoria celebrated its 30th Birthday.

That was also the day on which the Phillip Island Tennis club held its annual Biggest Morning Tea in support of this cause.

Thanks to De’Longhi’s Dollar Match Day, the amazing amount of $800 we raised became an even more amazing $1600!

This year we invited the men from the Thursday afternoon group to join us for a Round Robin Tournament which resulted in twenty-two players participating.

An enjoyable morning’s tennis was had by all, despite the windy conditions which added to the challenge.

We were fortunate to complete the matches just before the rain arrived.

Up to five rounds were played during the morning after which Mick Mills and Maria Kirwan were declared the winners.

A delicious lunch was enjoyed by all, including former players who joined us for the meal, competitions and company.

Raffle winners were able to choose from many donated prizes which included plants in plant boxes made by the Mens’ Shed for which we were most grateful.

There were too many winners to list, but nearly everyone who bought tickets won a prize.

Robyne Lunn’s guess was closest to the Number of Sweets in the jar.

She also picked the number of the cup which had the tea bag.

Irene Christy won the Tea-rivia competition while Maria Kirwan had placed her Cherry closest to the top of the pile of pancakes.

This year we held a display of jugs which resulted in twenty-two being shown.

It was possible for people to vote for the jug they thought was the best in the twelve categories listed.

Among the winners were Jenny Percy for the Most Popular and Most Unusual, Alison Fitzgerald for the Prettiest, and Maria Kirwan for the Biggest.

We are most grateful to everyone who attended for their support and contribution to such a successful event.
