Phillip Island Boardriders, Scouts and Land Alliance are among the groups that have secured funding from the latest round of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Grants program.

This round, $137,000 has been allocated to support not-for-profit organisations based in the shire to deliver projects that benefit the community.

The Phillip Island Boardriders Club received $10,000 to renew the clubhouse floor, while the Scouts received $4900 to buy a Paddle Project Trailer.

Phillip Island Land Alliance secured $4746 to engage Bunurong Land Council in Cultural Awareness Workshops to assist in identifying cultural items or landmarks when planting.

In all, 13 organisations from Phillip Island or San Remo were among the 31 groups that secured funding.

“It’s fantastic to see such a breadth of our community stepping forwards for the Community Grants Program,” said Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan.

“The program exists to empower Bass Coast folks to make a real difference to our area – people, place or planet.

“It’s inspiring to see so many funds being granted to projects that build a shared connection to nature – through outdoor exploration, recreation, and indigenous celebration,” said the Mayor.

“I’m particularly excited for our new Climate Change Action Community Grants, which will fund solutions to the climate emergency at a local level – doing our bit in Bass Coast to help tackle the biggest issue of our time.

“I invite non-profit groups to start planning for the 2023 awards now, as we look forward to funding your incredible ideas for the future of our planet – acting locally, thinking globally.”

Applications are now open for Community Grants 2023 Round 1, closing on March 3. Applicants are encouraged to read the Community Grant Guidelines and contact Council's Community Grants Officer before starting an application.

Also opening this week is the Quick Response Grants, assessed monthly, providing up to $1000.
