Nicola Bulega has taken an emotional maiden victory in his debut WSBK race this afternoon.

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba. It Racing Ducati) has taken his maiden victory in his debut World Superbike race this afternoon at the Phillip Island Circuit.

The incredible result came after a strong performance throughout Friday’s free practice sessions (placing him in second on the combined time-sheets), and the Tissot Superpole on Saturday, which led him to take pole position for Race 1 of the weekend with a record breaking lap time of 1’27.916.

The Italian’s race lead came after the mandatory flag-to-flag pitstops got underway during Lap 7 up until which, Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven) had been leading the field for the first time after his four-year racing absence.

Bulega’s position would proceed to be set in stone as a two-second gap would form between the factory Ducati rider and the remainder of the pack.

As the chequered flag was waved, he would cross the finish line with a historic win.

Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) would follow on in second, along with Andrea Iannone in third.
