Bass Coast businesses seeking workers

Local businesses have signed up to the upcoming Local Jobs Expo in record numbers presenting a range of employment opportunities for jobseekers.

In particular there are a large range of opportunities for people wishing to be employed within early childcare, health care, construction, hospitality as well as tourism jobs.

Bass Coast Shire Council encourages all jobseekers – whether seeking new employment, looking for a change or further employment, to attend the Jobs Expo.

“There will also be a range of traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities with local providers keen to meet potential new employees,” a council spokesperson said.

“We will also be running a Roadmap to Employment: From Resume to Offer Letter webinar to prepare jobseekers in the leadup to the Jobs Expos.

“The webinar will focus on how to create a resume and cover letter that makes you stand out and how to prepare for an interview.”

The council, in conjunction with the Australian Government’s Local Jobs Program, South Gippsland Bass Coast Local Learning and Employment Network and the State Government’s Skills and Jobs Centre will be hosting a range of events in October including the Local Jobs Expo.

A physical jobs board will be available to display local vacancies, which will enable connection with employers who are unable to attend on the day, or who have just one or two vacancies.

“We know that underemployment is a challenge in our region and we hope this Jobs Expo will help to fill the gaps for people seeking further employment,” said Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan.

“There are businesses and services showcasing career pathways throughout the expo.

“We also know there are people on a pension who may require additional supplements of funds who we hope will be able to find a placement where they can earn more.

“We ask that all our local colleges, job provider networks, high schools and other service providers get in touch and encourage people to attend,” he said.

“We have a surplus of jobs ready for our community as well as visitors to the region with upcoming seasonal work.”
