C Graders pull off a fantastic victory
Due to the wet weather the C Graders reluctantly shifted from Rhyll, the home of cricket, to Newhaven for their round seven game.
Desperate for a win, the Sharks had the tough task of facing Nerrena, the reigning premiers.
The skipper won his fourth coin toss in a row and decided to bat.
Francis and Hodson opened the innings, Francis was caught at slip for a duck bringing young gun DiFalco to the crease.
Fresh off blasting a half century in the U15s, he was in form and keen to continue his run scoring.
Hodson and DiFalco kept the runs flowing with great running between the wickets and some big blows to the boundary.
The pair put on 48 before Seb was caught behind for 22.
Hodson and Angelo got the Sharks to drinks.
Angelo was lbw shortly after drinks for three, and Mani hit some nice shots before being caught for 9 (4/75).
Parry blasted some huge hits, sending the local kids at the skate ramp scattering.
Hodson was stumped for a solid total of 43 bringing the skipper to the crease.
Parry went for one too many big shots and was caught on the fence (6/122).
Carville and Cleary started to launch into the attack, frequently hitting the boundary and piling on valuable late runs.
Carville was caught on the fence in the last over for 16 and Steve Lock saw out the innings, ending on two not out.
Captain Cleary finished on 38 not out as the team was about 10-15 runs above par, finishing on 7/175.
The Sharks headed out to field as the clouds closed in and the Newhaven Nurse made her presence felt.
Chambers and Jax Marshall opened the bowling.
The well-seasoned Nerrena openers got off to a flying start, not letting the young bowlers find their rhythm, belting anything loose and scoring rapidly.
Angelo and Francis were brought into the attack and immediately slowed the run rate.
Angelo finally got the Sharks first wicket, bowling the opener.
He then picked up another a few balls later, caught behind, 2/77.
Francis got an lbw and Lock came on and got a wicket, cleaned bowled, much to the delight of his boys, Jobe and Judd, watching on.
When Captain Cleary hung on to a sharp catch, he gave Steve Lock his second wicket and the prized wicket of the Nerrena captain (5/105).
The game had started to turn, and the Sharks were pulling themselves up off the canvas.
The skipper then got a wicket when Hodson took a catch and when he sent the stumps cartwheeling on consecutive balls, there was blood in the water and the Sharks were circling.
A late partnership saw Nerrena closing in on the total, but the skipper grabbed a fourth wicket when Carville took a catch.
Nerrena kept the big hitter on strike and inched closer to the total.
With three overs remaining the number 11 had to face out an over surrounded by Phillip Island fielders.
Angelo was bowling, the tension was immense, and the batsmen feathered one down leg side and Zak Hughes took a magnificent diving catch.
The Sharks had completed a brilliant comeback victory. Nerrena all out 163.
A famous victory.
