Calling all nature-lovers

Love what Phillip Island offers and want to give back?
Or perhaps you’re new to Phillip Island and keen to join a local group.

Maybe you just want to help the environment.
Either way, the Phillip Island Conservation Society – which has been running for 53 years – is calling for new volunteers.

There are four roles that need to be filled: communications, social media, research and administration support.
PICS president Jeff Nottle said volunteers give as much time as they are able.

He said PICS had a long history of successful campaigning.
“PICS has remained at the forefront of conservation issues at the Federal, State and local council level,” Jeff said.
“PICS has been at the forefront of protecting Western Port from industrialisation and led campaigns against the container port and the AGL gas factory and was even awarded Environment Victoria’s community award for resilience in the face of repeated attempts to destroy the local environment at Westernport.”

Jeff said PICS during the two years of the pandemic lockdowns had given “many people the opportunity to reflect and further appreciate the benefits of conserving our flora and fauna”.
“On Phillip island the environment is the economy.

“International focus on climate change has seen a positive shift in raising awareness of the need to protect our natural world. The increased awareness of the environment and the importance of conservation has emerged from being seen by many as a fringe issue to a mainstream issue affecting us all.
