Calling all wildlife lovers
The Australian Wildlife Society is holding a special webinar on October 2, to help you connect with nature.

Australian Wildlife Week, established by the Australian Wildlife Society (AWS), is celebrated nationally during the first week of October each year to encourage a positive relationship between humanity and nature.

This year, the AWS is offering a special webinar to help you connect with nature.

The society said Australia’s wildlife has significantly declined since European colonisation through direct anthropogenic impacts.

“Land clearing, invasive species, and climate change are substantial threats to wildlife ecosystems and are key contributing factors to the loss of Australia’s threatened species,” President of the Australian Wildlife Society, Dr Julie Old, said.

To celebrate Australian Wildlife Week, the Society is hosting an online webinar on Monday October 2, from 11am to 1pm (AEST).

The webinar will showcase wildlife research and conservation projects across Australia.

“Several keynote speakers will provide an overview of their key projects, and a number of the Society’s 2023 University Research Grant winners will summarise their research and the importance of protecting Australian wildlife.

“The Society established Australian Wildlife Week in 2019,” Dr Old said.

“Through the webinar, we hope to inspire community members to implement conservation actions to protect native flora and fauna and conserve natural habitats for future generations.

“We look forward to having you join us for this special event.”

The webinar will be live streamed on Facebook and made available afterwards via the society’s YouTube channel for those unable to join on the day. You can register for the webinar at www.aws.org.au/australian-wildlife-week-2023/

Topics will cover: Bandicoots, Koalas, Landcare, endangered amphibians, turtle conservation, threatened reef species, impact of insecticide exposure, native bee conservation, wombats, cat management and marine ecosystems.

Australian Wildlife Society, founded in 1909, is a national not-for-profit wildlife conservation organisation dedicated to conserving Australian wildlife (flora and fauna) through national environmental education, public awareness, advocacy, hands-on wildlife conservation work, and community involvement.
