Cape Woolamai power outage Monday
Under lockdown rules, people can relocate for the duration of the outage.
Approximately 1000 properties in Cape Woolamai will be without power on Monday (August 9), between 9am and 4.30pm.
This is sure to create chaos with people working from home, and students back to remote learning during the lockdown.
However, under lockdown rules, people can relocate for the duration of the outage.
A spokesperson for AusNet said the outage was necessary so poles could be replaced and other maintenance conducted "for safety reasons".
“We recognise the impact of a planned outage during COVID-19 restrictions, and where possible, we are shortening the duration of outages and attempting to bundle them so we can complete multiple jobs at once – and reduce future instances of outages. Unfortunately, after more than a year of balancing lockdown restrictions as well as the recovery from extreme weather events, we don’t have much flexibility in the planned works schedule.
“We are aware that some people may need additional support during power outages. The Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) advises that under care and compassionate grounds, during COVID-19 lockdowns people may leave their premises to travel to an alternative premises, i.e. family member/friend’s home with power. The five-kilometre limit does not apply in this circumstance.”
Affected properties have been directly notified by AusNet via mail or text message.
