Bass Coast Health (BCH) is always on the lookout for exceptional Allied Health professionals who are looking for a fast paced and dynamic workplace to strengthen the next exciting phase in their careers.

BCH is the sub-regional health service for Bass Coast and South Gippsland, and provides many clinical and non-clinical development opportunities for Allied Health clinicians.

BCH celebrated Allied Health Professions Day on October 14.

Allied Health Senior Program Manager, Sally Phillips said BCH hugely values the role Allied Health plays in helping our community stay healthy so they can enjoy their lives fully.

“Allied Health professionals cover many disciplines and at BCH that includes Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Counselling, Speech Pathology, Dietetics, Podiatry and Allied Health Assistants,” she said.

“They provide care to our inpatients on our Acute, Sub-Acute, Emergency and Maternity wards, working with our clinical teams to help patients recover from injury and illness to return home as quickly and as safely as possible.”

Allied Health professionals also work in outpatient and home-based settings, and can be assisting children to improve their speech, and also helping adults to optimise their mobility after an injury.

“The variety of roles means that our staff have the opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams on a wide range of cases, giving them exposure to a raft of situations that make for stimulating working days,” Sally said.

“They also enjoy the support of our Learning and Development team that includes staff dedicated to helping our Allied Health team to learn and grow by helping them access a range of professional development opportunities.

“Our Allied Health staff work across our Wonthaggi and Phillip Island sites so that one day is never the same. They have the chance to work in the new $115m Wonthaggi Hospital which is a state-of-the art facility. This building will be complemented by the new Phillip Island Community Hospital when that opens in Cowes in late 2024.”

Sally is proof of the career opportunities available at BCH, having joined BCH as an Occupational Therapist and now working in a senior management role.

“The advantage of working at a sub-regional health service is that Allied Health staff are not pigeon-holed into a single setting; they have the opportunity to further their careers without uprooting their lives and families,” she said.

“I am clearly biased but the BCH Allied Health team is also a friendly, supportive group who have lots of laughs, and who make the most of the many opportunities to enjoy our local beaches, walking trails and be part of the broader Bass Coast community.”
