Students at Newhaven College raised over $1500 with a Pyjama Day fundraiser to support Landcare.
Organised by Year 12, students from every year came to school in their PJs, with some teachers getting into the spirit as well.
At lunch time, students enjoyed a sausage sizzle for a gold coin donation.
The money raised will be included in the overall fundraising for Landcare planned for the school year. All money raised will go towards the Biolinks project, to support planting projects throughout Bass Coast.
Bass Coast Landcare Network (BCLN) is part of a grassroots movement, assisting 10 local Landcare groups to complete their objectives of restoring the local landscape.
Lisa Wangman, is the Education, Training and Communications Manager for BCLN.
“The aim of the Biolinks project is to increase indigenous vegetation cover and form wildlife corridors for native fauna to safely travel throughout the region,” she explained.
“With only around 10 per cent of original vegetation remaining in Bass Coast, it’s so fantastic to see students and families from Newhaven College contribute to this important work.”
A college spokesperson said love for the environment is part of the Newhaven College education. “Supporting local environmental and community groups is important to students. Some enjoy hands-on contributions, such as attending tree planting days or participating in Climate Action rallies. Others like to educate and encourage understanding of the need to protect our environment.”
