Community at Heart #2
The opening of the new San Remo campus of Bass Coast College.

From Jordan Crugnale MP

What a massive four years and together we have achieved a lot.  As I mentioned last week, it has been an amazing privilege working with and for you to deliver the funding, services, infrastructure and supports our community needs and deserves.

Hospitals, schools, cost of living supports, safe and secure homes being built, a cleaner economy from our solar homes program through to our nation leading emissions reductions, net zero targets, and new renewable industry supports like offshore wind right here off our coastline.

Yallock Bulluk Coastal Marine Park has been created, and Wilsons Prom is to become our largest conservation sanctuary in the state with improved visitor experiences too.

We are leading the nation with Treaty and Truth. First Peoples Assembly elected, Treaty Authority Bill legislated and the Yoorook Justice Commission continue to hold hearings across the state.

Victoria’s Mental Health system is being rebuilt from the ground up to make sure we can access treatment, care and support closer to home. Progress already made on 90 per cent of the Royal Commission’s recommendations – we are the only major party to fully adopt, fund and commit to its implementation – it is an investment after all.

Our legislative agenda has seen many Australia firsts. Wage Theft a Crime, IVF publicly funded, targets for off-shore wind set, licensing scheme for businesses working with engineered stone to protect workers from silica dust exposure, Mental Health and Wellbeing Bill - the list goes on.

Kinder Free for all families from next year, Tafe with more free courses and places, school students involved in our Headstart program of apprenticeships and traineeships one of the highest in the state.

Our sporting clubs have new pavilions, our ovals proper lights, scout halls upgraded, halls maintained, men sheds expanded.

Dedicated grant programs have allowed businesses to be innovative, reduce emissions, expand, create jobs and boost our economy. Creative events, ventures and artistic pursuits supported – we are all the richer as a society with them and the arts at the core.

Projects that bring us together, connect us, like the path from Bass Valley Primary School to Corinella, Wonthaggi to Inverloch, the Cowes Cultural and Community Centre, play spaces for Rhyll Foreshore and Anderson Street Reserve – all thanks to our flagship Growing Suburbs fund.

There is a  ‘to do ‘ list of course. If re-elected I will continue to work for more of everything – including school upgrades and rebuilds, a mental health hub to be located right here in the Bass Coast, more social and affordable housing, workable bus timetables and better routes, even more pathways for our young people to secure long-term local jobs and upskilling opportunities for the rest of us, diversifying our economy, protections for our precious environment.

It’s the election season and already I have seen disinformation, warped figures and untruths get thrown around. As my dad Fernando used to say ( translated)  – do the research, fight with the facts, give credit where it’s due, admit when you are wrong.

As an FYI our Andrews Labor Government 22/23 budget allocated 35 per cent of new infrastructure spend to regional Victoria because we are worth it.

The Phillip Island Community Hospital is also funded, happening, construction starts this month. It was always on the public record as being completed in 2024.

A newsletter with a selection of projects and initiatives we have achieved together will be in your mail box this week. Any questions or if you need more information, please sing out – my team and I are here to help.
