Do you love wildlife, the Island’s environment and community? Would you like to be more involved in what’s happening at Phillip Island Nature Parks including hearing directly from the Board and team about conservation works and future planning?
Then the Nature Parks Community and Environment Committee is for you!
This Board advisory committee has just completed its three-year term and applications are now open for four community members to join the team.
Known affectionately as the ‘CEAC’, this group meets quarterly for two hours at a Nature Parks venue or online to share information. You will receive updates from the Nature Parks Board, Conservation Team and special guests as well as sharing community information via updates from Phillip Island’s community groups and members about upcoming events, activities and topics to work together to create community solutions.
“Over the recent term, this committee has enjoyed behind the scenes tours with the team. Members also made a significant contribution to community planning such as the draft Phillip Island (Millowl) Wildlife Plan to find place-based solutions for abundant wildlife and the Sharing our Beaches campaign to promote a safe summer for people and wildlife,” said Catherine Basterfield, Nature Parks CEO.
“We are delighted to be offering the opportunity for community members of all ages and experience to get involved to work together to achieving the Nature Parks’ aspirations of protecting nature for wildlife and further developing community partnerships. Our community is incredibly important to us. We can’t do it without you!”
Phillip Island Nature Parks manages four main attractions: the Penguin Parade, Nobbies Centre, Koala Conservation Reserve and Churchill Island. It also manages 20 per cent of the Island’s natural areas including beaches, wetlands and woodlands – it probably manages your local beach or walking track.
If this sounds like the right fit for you as a community member, please visit www.penguins.org.au/community and select Community Committees to find further information, application form and to read previous committee minutes.
Applications close Sunday, September 19 and successful applicants will be advised in time to attend the next meeting on Thursday, September 30.
