The latest get together of the Handsome Men's Club raised $1500, which has been split evenly between Free 3D Hands, PICAL and the McGrath Foundation.
The Handsome Men's Club held it's bi-annual luncheon at The Westernport Hotel last month, raising funds for community groups and awareness for men's mental health.
The Handsome Men's Club was formed in 2019 and meets twice yearly at the Westernport Hotel.
It was formed as most good ideas are – over a beer on a Friday night.
"It was something we'd been doing for a few years, getting a bunch of mates together," said local resident Alan Byrnes.
"When I mentioned it to Nick from The Westernport, we decided to turn it into something a bit more regular."
The Handsome Men's Club is not an official club, rather an opportunity for men to meet regularly with a view to shine a light on men's mental health. This is usually over an activity such as go-karting, or a three-course lunch at The Westernport, a beer or a glass of red wine.
"It's a great opportunity to get a diverse group of blokes together and remind them they're not alone, but in a relaxed setting," said Nick Say, Westernport Hotel publican.
"It's a subtle reminder that whatever anyone is going through, there's someone in that room that they can lean on.
"In addition to highlighting the importance of mental health and fostering good relationships amongst a great bunch of blokes it's also a great opportunity to learn a bit about others in the community, with a guest speaker presenting at each event," Nick explained.
"They generally speak about their journey, be it professional or personal, with a few tall stories thrown in. The important thing is they're talking, which gets everyone talking."
The events also raise valuable funds for local community groups and fundraising efforts.
"This event raised $1500, of which we as a group decided to split evenly between Free 3D Hands, PICAL and the McGrath Foundation," said Alan.
"All worthy causes doing amazing work in our community."
The club is currently planning its next event for late September. Stay tuned for more details.
