This September, the Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) will be bringing back to focus their world-first initiative Donation Dollar, designed to inspire and encourage Australians to not only give in times of crisis, but continue to be generous all year round, giving smaller amounts, more often, across all charities.
Over the coming years, the Mint will circulate a $1 dollar coin for every Australian with a simple call to action – donate this dollar to help others. The aim of this coin program is to generate donations to charities in a time when many charities across Australia are doing it tough.
The Mint launched the Donation Dollar in September 2020 and released over three million Donation Dollars into circulation. The Mint estimates around six million Donation Dollars are currently in circulation, with an additional five million being released in the next 12 months.
The Royal Australian Mint hopes to have 25 million $1 Donation Dollar coins donated to Australian charities over the coming years.
