These Monday Boys are on the job early clearing fallen branches around the Phillip Island golf course. At home on the tractor is long-time volunteer Peter Hian, with John Enbom and Phil Dressing with chainsaw in hand.

On any given Monday you may hear the sharp whirring sounds of a chainsaw in action.
They can come from anywhere around the Cowes golf course and at varying times throughout the morning.
More often than not, they are accompanied by voices shouting instructions, some highlighted with curses, and the revving of run-around tractors racing to and from across the fairways.
This is part and parcel of the busyness of a group of volunteer golfers who proudly work under the name of the Monday Boys.
This loyal group is comprised of men who turn up each week, when they can, to do their bit for the golf course.
Surprisingly, even though the faces have changed, the determination and enthusiasm they bring with them, hasn t waned over the past 30 odd years.
I just love the club, and take pride in it. It s the companionship and a chance to help the club out, explained long-time volunteer and club stalwart Peter Hian.
As with the usual dozen or so blokes who turn up each week, their skills and experience come in handy at any given job. Whether it be using machinery, driving tractors, mowing, making paths, building and repairing or simply using a bit of muscle power, everyone pitches in.
They muster at the work shed around 8am to hear what s on the agenda for the day.
This list is compiled by course superintendent Ryan Hall who never loses sight of the fact his job is made decidedly easier by these boys .
They re the backbone of the club. We d be buggered without them, Ryan says.
They do the jobs that we don t have time for. They re all retired and have a lot of good trade skills. And it s great camaraderie among them.
As a reward, smoko is always on offer and the midmorning break sees the boys head back to the shed for plates of sausage rolls, bikkies or whatever else is on offer.
It s a small gesture but this fellowship is a major reason why these Monday Boys keep on keeping on.
