Eight-year-old Orly Moulynox from Cape Woolamai and 10-year-old Oliver Crane of Corinella were part of the Victorian State Youth Ballet’s sold-out performances of the Little Mermaid on the weekend.
The boys performed at the Karralyka Theatre in Ringwood East and in preparation for the show, have been travelling to Bundoora every Sunday for six hours of training and rehearsals.
Earlier this year, the boys successfully auditioned for the Victorian State Youth Ballet (VSYB), the state’s leading youth ballet company. It offers training, rehearsing and performing opportunities to the next generation of dancers, and the opportunity to be mentored by professional dancers.
The two boys, who both attend Spark Studio of Dance in Corinella, have travelled to Melbourne for rehearsals since March.
Orly’s mum Jess said the boys have worked hard to achieve their goal and as part of the Little Mermaid will appear as swordfish in one act, and dancers at a ball in another.
“The show is amazing and we’re all so excited to see how far the boys have come this year,” she said.
In the second half of the year, the boys will start training for the next performance – The Nutcracker.
