A quilt making project was initiated by VIEW Club member, Lyn Duguid, making a quilt for each of the five children the club supports through the Smith Family.
Phillip Island VIEW Club (Voice Interests and Education of Women) brings local women together to build lasting friendships and connections within our local community.
A luncheon meeting is held monthly at the San Remo Hotel with speakers covering a range of interesting topics. Social activities are also held monthly including coffee mornings, theatre visits, visits to local attractions and events. New members are always welcome.
A recent new member commented “I was new to the Island and knew very few people; through joining View, I was able to meet and get to know many women.”
View Clubs have a long-term connection to the Smith Family.
Phillip Island VIEW club provides a Learning for Life Sponsorship for five disadvantaged children through the Smith Family, providing school essentials and access to educational support systems and programs.
Each year Phillip Island View Club raises over $3500 to support these children.
In 2022, a quilt making project was initiated by club member, Lyn Duguid.
Lyn proposed making a quilt for each sponsored student, creating a team of members who were willing to participate in sewing bees and give up their time to be part of this project.
A team of 12 enthusiastic members was established with Phillip Island Patchworkers group generously donating fabrics.
As students’ ages ranged from 8 years to 17 years the selection of fabrics and patterns took some time as it was important to consider their ages and interests.
The Sewing Bees continued throughout the year with lots of laughs and camaraderie and in January this year, the club was able to send off the first quilt to its eldest student who was 18 years old. She had completed Year 12 – a wonderful achievement.
Phillip Island continues to grow with new members joining throughout the year. Want to make new friends? Come join the Phillip Island VIEW Club. For more information, contact Chris 0406 469 824.
