Supporting women and girls in sport
1 min read

The Phillip Island Yacht Club was one of 130 recipients of the State Government's Change Our Game Community Activation Grants program announced this month.

The club received $2400 for a female sailing program to provide a forum for women and girls to both develop or reactivate their sailing skills to better participate in the club's sailing program. Their training will be provided by female instructors over four sessions.

The only other local recipient was GippSport, which received $9980 to facilitate leadership and governance training to encourage young women to step into leadership roles in local community sport.

The funding will also help create a network of peer support and intergenerational mentoring in connection with their Changing Gippsland's Game Professional Network.

Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale MP congratulated the two recipients on securing the grants.

"These grants support the work our wonderful clubs and community sport organisations are doing to create positive change whether it is in participation or leadership programs for women and girls," Ms Crugnale said.

"I want to thank Cowes Yacht Club and GippSport who are active, devising programs, putting in the time, dedication and energy to creating a level playing field and breaking down barriers."

The Change Our Game Community Activation Grants program delivers grants of up to $10,000 to community sport and recreation clubs to help inspire women and girls to take part - including new women's programs, opportunities for club leadership roles and other on and off field options.
