"This term's offerings span job-ready training, community education, volunteering opportunities, social connection and wellbeing initiatives," explains Kerryn Ladell, Assistant Manager, PICAL.
"The program is about creating opportunities for people of all ages to engage, share and grow together."
Term two program highlights include:
- Living at home for longer: Designed to provide older community members and their families with the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed choices about their care. 11am to 11.45am, Friday April 24 at PICAL's Warley Avenue site.
- HER Network: Will provide a safe, inclusive and empowering space for women to connect, build skills and access meaningful support.
Practical, employment-focused workshops include resume writing and job readiness skills, understanding AI and navigating hybrid work environments, interview preparation and confidence building, access to appropriate interview clothing and financial literacy education.
Launches Friday May 8, then 10am to 12noon every Friday thereafter. - Chill n Grill: An exciting hands-on four-week cooking program where teens learn essential kitchen skills from experienced chefs in a safe and supportive environment.
Designed for teens who are home schooling or may be at home. 1pm to 3pm, Fridays. - Games Galore: Bring your friends, lunch, favourite board games and enjoy a few hours of fun with the local community.
Games may include Mahjong, card games and more.
10am to 2pm every Tuesday at PICAL's Warley Avenue site. Starts Tuesday April 21.
PICAL's term two program is brought to the community thanks to support from Barry Plant Real Estate Agents.
"At PICAL we believe that learning empowers people, strengthens capability and fosters connection.
"We work with local groups, organisations and businesses to create meaningful community impact.
And, we're proud that our term two program will do just that while also supporting people of all ages," explains Kerryn.
From skill-building courses to social groups and wellbeing activities, there's something for everyone this term.
PICAL provides a welcoming space to learn something new, improve wellbeing while also meeting great people.
"PICAL really is a focal point for community learning and connection," Kerryn concludes.
PICAL is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit community centre based in Cowes, it operates across two locations: Warley Avenue and Blue Gum Reserve, home to the Pantry Garden, Coel's Shed, workshop and common room.
