The “We Are Phillip Island” website is the brainchild of Judi Pay, who moved to the island several years ago.
“The idea came about several years ago when I first moved here, to finding a tradesman that was local,” Judi said.
“I have always been passionate about Buy Local, and after talking with locals, I realised a business and community website was needed for Phillip Island.”
Judi set out developing a comprehensive website that is easy to read and navigate. The 15 categories include everything from accommodation, food, health, through to trades and community groups.
“All the information is there with links to the business website and social media,” Judi explained.
“Last month the website had 11,000 visits and continues to grow.
“The website is supported with social media. With so many new people moving here and with the amount of holiday homeowners, it is important and very enjoyable for me to promote daily about how amazing life is here on the Island.”
Judi said there are many wonderful Phillip Island things to promote and through her website, she’s spreading the word far and wide.
“Whether it’s the groups, the volunteers, the vast range of businesses or our stunning location.
“Each day my posts are reaching 45,000 readers.
“Feedback from these posts is so rewarding with people supporting and sharing the posts or asking for more information.”
As a former business owner herself, Judi said businesses can never assume that everybody knows their business or what they sell.
“To gain more customers, businesses need to be known and advertising should be a common business practice,” she stressed.
Judi’s love of local communities has seen her engage with local government and the not-for-profit sector, to work with community for better outcomes, including working with the communities of Kinglake and Marysville after the Black Saturday fires.
“I am excited about living on Phillip Island and just love the chance to promote absolutely all of it.”
