On May 7, Cowes Primary School celebrated its annual Japanese Day.

Students and staff dressed up in Japan-inspired costumes for a start-of-day parade, where there was a proliferation of Pikachus, ninjas and kimonos. Many students showcased their links to learning by drawing inspiration from the mnemonics used in Japanese lessons which aid recall of the 46 hiragana sounds.

Classes participated in fun activities through the day, from constructing origami and kendama toys to making (and eating) onigiri and sushi.

It was great to see students getting into the spirit of being global citizens, valuing diversity and being engaged in their education, making the day a huge success.
