Dark fairytales come to life

The acclaimed Shake & Stir Theatre Co returns to Berninneit with GRIMM a bold new production that promises to captivate, unsettle and amaze audiences.

Following the sold-out success of 1984 at Berninneit last year, GRIMM is an electrifying theatrical experience on Tuesday August 18 at 7.30pm.

From the company behind the award-winning productions of Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, A Christmas Carol and the critically acclaimed 1984, GRIMM takes audiences deep into the darker origins of the Brothers Grimm fairytales, revealing the haunting truths hidden beneath the stories we thought we knew.

Within shadowy forests and eerie landscapes, familiar characters including Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood emerge in startling new ways.

Adapted by Nelle Lee and directed by Daniel Evans, the production blends gripping storytelling, breathtaking theatrical design and lavish costumes by renowned Australian fashion designer Paul McCann to create an unforgettable night at the theatre.

GRIMM is imaginative, visually spectacular and unlike anything audiences are likely to have experienced before. It transforms familiar fairytales into an immersive theatrical event that is thrilling, thought-provoking and beautifully crafted.

Praised as "a wonderfully irreverent re-imagining" by The Blurb, while the Brisbane Times declared "Shake & Stir have managed to spin straw into gold," GRIMM was one of Brisbane Festival's standout productions and one of its hottest tickets.

Recommended for audiences aged 14 years and over, GRIMM contains adult themes, sexual references, simulated violence and gore, infrequent coarse language, depictions of alcohol consumption, smoke effects, strobe lighting and loud sound effects.

The performance runs without an interval.
