Dorothy Mullen celebrated her 101st birthday on March 8 at Grossard Court in Cowes.

There was a special birthday celebration at Grossard Court in Cowes on March 8, when resident Dorothy Mullen celebrated her 101st birthday.

Dorothy and family enjoyed a special lunch in the private dining room, then afterwards Dorothy joined her fellow residents for afternoon tea in the lounge.

All the guests received a specialised handmade cookie, celebrating the big day.

Dorothy has been a much loved resident at Grossard Court for the past two years.

“We feel so blessed to have been able to put on an extravaganza celebration last year for her centenary,” said Lifestyle Coordinator Kerrie Barr.

“We are equally honoured and excited to once again celebrate another special birthday for Dorothy’s 101st, with family, friends and fellow residents.”

Dorothy is fortunate to have her son Tim and his husband Peter (son-in-law) who spend a lot of time with her, enjoying the good and fun times that they have all shared.

Dorothy moved to Phillip Island with Tim and Peter nearly five years ago from Mitcham, where she was also living with her son.

Dorothy was born in Ballarat and moved to Melbourne in her late teens to become a nurse at Fairfield Infectious Disease ward until she was married.
She and her husband moved to Balwyn, and remained there for 52 years, before moving in with her son.

Dorothy has always been very active in her community going to church, belonging to Mother’s Union, playing lawn bowls and volunteering for many organisations.

“Dorothy has had a wonderful and very fulfilling life and is such a positive and beautiful person,” said Kerrie.

“We here at Grossard court are privileged to have the pleasure of caring for this beautiful lady.”
