Phillip Island's tree dieback and growing urban environment can't sustain a wild koala population, according to Phillip Island Nature Parks (PINP).

Overall tree health on Phillip Island is a "concern", with widespread dieback, which means the current habitat can't sustain a wild koala population. Phillip Island koalas were "once abundant" but today sightings are rare and there may only be about 10 in the wild, "but nobody knows for sure", says Friends of the Koalas.
