The latest initiative from Change for Sam encouraged children to spread kindness and respect over Easter and throughout the school holidays.

Last week, Cowes Primary School children were given 10 ideas on how they can be kind over the school holidays along with a small chocolate to enjoy for Easter. The list included simple acts of kindness promoting respectful, genuine and generous exchanges in the home and in the Bass Coast community.

“Being kind is such a simple thing to do. If we all chose kindness first then the world would be a happier place,” said Lija Matthews, Change for Sam committee member and Sam’s friend.

“I wanted to show the kids that they are special to all of us. I wanted to remind them that their words and actions are so important and just to give a few ways of simple ways to promote more kindness in our community. Our community is awesome already but who wouldn’t like to receive more kindness in their day?”

Phillip Island Chocolate Factory sweetened the Change for Sam Easter activity with a donation of over 560 chocolates, while Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari and his wife Leanne hopped on board to fund the printing costs for the Kindness Checklist.

“I’m so thankful that both Phillip Island Chocolate Factory and Brett and Leanne Tessari are just as passionate in spreading the kindness too,” Lija said.

Kondanapanny (Panny) Letchumanan, Phillip Island Chocolate Factory owner, said he was “happy to support kindness to and between children and the community.”

For Brett and Leanne Tessari, getting involved in the “fantastic initiative” was an easy decision.

“If this helps to put a smile on the school kids faces after the 12 months they have been through, then how could my wife and I not get involved,” said Brett.

“Lija’s efforts in fighting to keep her friend Sam’s name at the forefront of all our thoughts is inspiring. Sam’s plight is something each and every one of us should never forget and Change for Sam will help that happen. Well done to Panny and the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory for getting involved as well.”
