Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop Feast Day

The Feast Day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop is held every year on August 8.

The day marks her death on August 8, 1909.

On this day we honour Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, who is the Patron Saint of Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College and therefore a role model to us all.

As is our tradition we celebrate this day and recognise Saint Mary of the Cross, MacKillop’s enormous contribution to helping those in need with a whole school liturgy, followed by our walkathon and then activities in the afternoon.

Mary exhorted all who worked with her to “never see a need without doing something about it” and we at Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College seek to achieve this through our fundraising efforts for local, national and international charities, with the sponsorship monies received from our students for participating in our walkathon.

This year our students walked from Koonwarra along the rail trail, through the heart of Leongatha and the back to the school.

A journey of more than 9 kilometres.

This year the money raised through our walkathon and other fundraising activities – organised by each homeroom in the school – will support the important work of these charities: Disaster Aid (a project of Rotary), Transform the Nations, Trinity Families and Mary MacKillop Today.

We thank everyone who has contributed so far and invite anyone wishing to assist these charities to make donations through visiting our website and following the links.
