The Grape Escape
If a ferry ride and fine wine sounds like the perfect day out, why not catch the Stony Point Ferry and visit some of the incredible wineries on the Mornington Peninsula.
It’s a 30-minute trip from Cowes to Stony Point, departing four times a day – and five times on Sundays.
With boutique wineries within minutes of Stony Point, it’s an easy day trip, or you could plan a whole weekend escape.
The Mornington Peninsula wine scene is known for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Wineries are a mix of boutique and family-run cellar doors, with most located 10 – 30 minutes in a taxi or uber from the ferry terminal.
Pt Leo Estate offers a high-end dining experience, with three different restaurants to select from: enjoy contemporary fine dining at Laura, savour regional produce at Pt Leo Restaurant or enjoy a light meal or snacks at The Wine Terrace.
Perhaps you’d prefer a cellar door tasting in the space that transforms into a sleek wine bar on Saturday evenings, boasting a tapas style menu.
Wherever you dine, leave time to wander through the sculpture park – 16.5 acres of landscaped grounds, showcasing over 70 large-scale works.
If one day is not enough, the estate even offers packages with nearby accommodation.
Red Hill Estate’s coastal views add an extra dimension to the relax wine tastings at the cellar door (don’t forget a bottle or two to take home with you).
Linger over a long lunch at the Italian restaurant, or enjoy a pizza on the lawn beside the conservatory.
Afterwards, visit their concept store and maybe pick up a homeware gift or indulge yourself with some body and beauty products.
Slow down, settle in … stay a little longer
Ten Minutes by Tractor is an award-winning winery with an acclaimed (two hat) fine dining restaurant, with a kitchen garden providing organically grown vegetables, herbs and edible flowers.
Last year it was ranked at #20 in The Real Review’s Top Wineries of Australia and its wines have won multiple awards.
It also offers a special range of experiences, from a Cheese and Wine Discovery package, to relaxation packages with local spas or an in-depth tour of the vineyard sites.
There’s so much to explore and enjoy, so close to home.
