One of Phillip Island’s most loved attractions, A Maze’N Things, has new owners and there’s plenty of exciting news ahead.
Park Lane Holiday Parks operate six holiday parks across Victoria and Phillip Island has just joined the family.
Owned by the Hellings family, Park Lane has 30 years’ experience in creating memorable family holidays.
The company took over just before the busy Easter holidays and have nothing but praise for the staff at A Maze’N Things.
“It’s been very busy, but it’s been wonderful,” said Park Lane General Manager Josh Hellings, whose parents founded the company.
“It is a fantastically run business already.”
The popular theme park will continue to operate as is, with Park Lane initially focused on accommodation.
Although it was still early days, Josh confirmed that the company was keen to “heavily invest in the holiday park”.
“When we were looking at buying, we knew the theme park was well run and was an icon in the area. We felt where we could really add value was in the holiday park portion of the business.”
Long term, the plan is to add some additional cabins, refurbish existing structures and improve the facilities to make it the best possible experience for customers.
Already Park Lane has made some adjustments, including addressing minor safety concerns, repainting cabins and upgrading garden beds and the holiday park entrance.
Business Development Manager Courtney Hellings, said the work to date ensured the property was in line with company standards, but there were more substantial plans afoot.
“Park Lane is a very customer-centric business,” she said.
“We ask what makes it a good experience for guests to stay here, from the linen we use to the play facilities provided.
“We want to create a one-stop-shop for families. They can stay in the Park Lane Holiday Park where kids can ride their bikes, swim in the pool … and in walking distance there’s A Maze’N Things, and a nice restaurant.”
Josh said the family market and school groups were a key focus.
“Guests at the holiday park get a 50 per cent discount on entrance to the theme park, so if A Maze’N Things is a key thing people want to do when they visit the island, staying at Park Lane makes it an affordable way to entertain the family.”
Courtney said its central location meant the Holiday Park was ideally placed for anyone who wanted to get out and explore the island, but was also a place where families could just relax and stay put.
Award winning
Park Lane has plenty of experience in creating unique experiences for guests at their holiday parks, and their BIG4 Holiday Park in the Yarra Valley is an award-winner.
It currently offers a range of cabin accommodation options, caravan and camping sites and luxurious glamping.
Courtney said the plan was to create something similar at Phillip Island, and provide guests with an exciting range of holiday options.
“Josh’s parents always have a focus on investing back into the business and expanding the experience for guests,” she said.
Josh agreed.
“We are super excited for this property – it has so much going for it.
“People already know A Maze’N Things is a great place to bring the family, but they may not be aware you can stay here as well.”
He said Park Lane Holiday Park was ideal for anyone planning a winter getaway on the island.
“You have the theme park right there for wet weather and cold days, which is fantastic for the kids.”
