Caravan rolls out of town
2 min read

There are just a few more weeks to enjoy the musical menu of the Caravan Music Club after founder Peter Foley called time on the project that has brought quality music to Victorian audiences for 20 years.

But they aren’t going out quietly, and there’s an incredible array of talent booked into the Archies Creek hotel in the coming weeks. Make sure you get yourself a ticket before this musical highlight on our doorsteps stops for good.

This weekend, multiple Latin Grammy-winner and recent Grammy Award nominee, Gaby Moreno plays an afternoon show at Archies Creek on Saturday March 16, from 3pm.

To see this trailblazer perform is to be awestruck by her breathtaking voice and exquisite guitar flourishes as she glides back and forth easily and exuberantly between bossa nova, jazz, blues and rock, with English and Spanish lyrics that honour her experiences as a Guatemalan immigrant living in the US.

Gaby has been nominated in the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, with her album Alegoría recognised in the Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album category. She co-wrote the theme song for the multi-award-winning TV series Parks and Recreation (NBC) and collaborating with Van Dyke Parks on her 2019 album, ¡Spangled!. She has shared the stage with luminaries Emmy Lou Harris, Bono, Tracy Chapman, Andrea Bocelli, Ani DiFranco, Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band, Punch Brothers, Chris Thile, Nickel Creek, Buena Vista Social Club, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, Van Dyke Parks and many more.

Lightning

On March 21, Don Walker and his band, featuring The Harmonettes, roll into Archies Creek, playing songs from his fourth solo album, “Lightning in a Clear Blue Sky”.

Don needs no introduction. As the key songwriter of Cold Chisel he’s responsible for tunes that many consider Australia’s unofficial anthems, including Khe Sanh, Flame Trees and Cheap Wine.

His album was released in May 2023 to critical acclaim, with music writer, Jeff Jenkins, declaring it “… Walker’s solo masterpiece, (a) work of dark beauty” for Stack Magazine. Internationally acclaimed author, Trent Dalton, said “The man’s music lives in me like myth. Who needs that sentimental bullshit? Me. We. He. She. They. Them. Us. Always.”

Don’t miss Don Walker and band, March 21. Doors open 7pm. Tickets at: www.caravanmusic.com.au/events/don-walker-band.

Catch the Caravan while you can.
