Local musician Kutcha Edwards is one of an impressive line up of finalists in the 2023 Environmental Music Prize.
Kutcha sits alongside Flume, Midnight Oil, Tash Sultana and King Stingray, with 22 artists selected for their ability to connect to nature and bring people together to protect the environment.
Judges said his song Singing Up Country and the accompanying video, like the work of other finalists, was selected due to its “ability to connect us to nature and reflect the hopes, fears and ambitions of the environmental movement”.
Midnight Oil’s Peter Garrett said “In the midst of a climate crisis that demands attention, the Environmental Music Prize - with songs to make us think and act – is a fantastic initiative.”
Last year, the inaugural prize saw over 50,000 views and 7500 votes from 58 countries. It was applauded by Former UN Climate Chief Christiana Figueres and the winners - King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – amplified their impact further by generously donating their $20,000 winnings to The Wilderness Society to further conservation and support environmental education for artists.
The public now have the opportunity to vote for their favourite track.
Voting is via environmentalmusicprize.com and closes June 4.
