A celebration of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day will be held at Berninneit on Saturday April 27, from 10am until 11am.
World Tai Chi Day is one day of the year when people in cities and towns in over 80 countries around the world will be gathering at 10am (their local time) to create a continuous wave of positive energy that promotes health, wellness and harmony around the world.
In past years, students of the Phillip Island Tai Chi School, family, friends and passers-by have joined the thousands of people around the world doing Tai Chi and Qigong in an effort to send a powerful wave of that positive energy around the globe.
Tai Chi is a martial art based on Kung Fu but focuses on gentle flowing movements to energise and strengthen the body, improve balance and both relax and stimulate the mind to bring better health and harmony to people's lives.
Qigong is an integral part of Tai Chi but is not a martial art. Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention using the meridian paths of the body.
One visitor to the island last year joined in the celebration.
"I had heard about and seen Tai Chi before but never had the opportunity to try it myself," they commented.
"Today was great! Basically just walking in off the street, not only did I get to have a go myself, I did feel that I was a part of a much bigger thing doing both Tai Chi and Qigong with everyone else who was there."
With knowledge of the benefits of both Tai Chi and Qigong exercise growing, celebration of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day is again on the island this coming Saturday.
Organisers are asking all participants to gather at Berninneit at around 9.50am, "so we are ready to enter and begin at 10am sharp".
Scheduled to run from 10am to 11am it is free and a real chance for anyone and everyone to join and help in spreading our positive life force (our Qi), beyond the island.
